For those of you who were at group last week you’ll remember we talked about thinking through, and coming up with a “hard thing” that you would like to see happen in your life before you kick the bucket – sort of your spiritual bucket list. (and for those of you who weren’t there, I’ll explain in a minute). Just wanted to remind all of you to be prayerfully considering what that may be – we have couples group this week, but I’ll be asking everyone next week, so be prepared.
Here is some (hopefully helpful) clarification on the criteria:
- It needs to be “mission-oriented” in nature (in other words, while visiting every continent in the world would be very cool, save that for another time – however, there are things that seem “secular” in nature that could qualify – i.e. Starting a business so you can support the church financially, hire individuals from the church, etc, etc.)
- It doesn’t have to be a “right-away” thing (it could be 10, 20, or even 30 years down the road)
- It doesn’t have to be “large” (for some it could be spending a summer in Haiti, for others it could be evangelizing one night each week downtown – the goal is that it makes you depend on the grace of God, step out in faith, and takes you out of your comfort zone)
- It should support the growth of the church and the advancement of the gospel (ultimately this isn’t about you, or what you want to accomplish – it’s about the mission and plan of God)
- It should be something that you can begin preparing for right now (though it may be for your future, you should have practical ways to begin preparing yourself right now).
I trust that this will help us get out of the rut of our comfortable, sometimes complacent lives, and embrace what God is passionate about – the gospel. I trust that God will begin to fuel a desire in each of our hearts to see God’s kingdom come on earth. Let’s not be satisfied with our own status quo – let’s be constantly praying to be used by God in extraordinary ways. I am in faith that God will use even these simple discussions to begin to use us as the next generation of the church for his glory.
Looking forward to hearing what’s on your heart, and please let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification. I’d be happy to talk through it more...
Have a great week guys – we’ll see the married folk tomorrow and the rest of you next week.
Thanks,
Jason
